One of the great Maltese traits is that they are rather active and they quite enjoy running around your house or yard.  Due to this they do not require lots of exercise.  Although this is the case, your Maltese will still enjoy going on daily walks with you around your neighborhood.   Because of the Maltese’s small size, it’s best to keep them on a leash when out and about for their own protection.

Playfulness is another one of the Maltese traits.  The Maltese breed loves to play games with their owners.  Because of this playfulness, it’s a good idea to put some time aside each day to play with your Maltese.  As an added bonus playing games with your Maltese is an excellent way to bond with them.

Easy-Going Nature

The Maltese breed has a rather easy-going nature.  It is because of this easy-going nature that they are a popular choice of pet amongst families and also singles.

Confident if brought up correctly

If you socialize your Maltese from a young age then they ideally should grow up confident and even fearless.  However, if you treat your Maltese like a baby then they may become anxious and hard to manage as they grown up.  Therefore it is best to socialize your Maltese right from the puppy stage with as many animals and people as possible.  The best way to do this is by taking your Maltese for lots of walks around your neighborhood – you could even take them to a local dog park.   If you socialize your Maltese like this then they should develop the fantastic confidence trait.

Sensitivity is another one of the Maltese traits.  Due to this sensitivity the Maltese breed doesn’t respond well to harsh training methods.   For example, you should never, ever use violent means such as hitting or yelling when training your Maltese.  Instead it’s important you remember their sensitive side and remain calm.  If you do this then you should have no trouble training your Maltese.

The Maltese is an extremely loyal dog and they become very attached to their owners.  Due to this loyalty, the Maltese makes a wonderful companion.

One of the great Maltese traits is intelligence, which makes them a little easier to train.  Due to this intelligence they also excel at learning tricks and do well at agility.

As you can see from the above, the Maltese has many amazing traits.  So if you are considering adopting a Maltese as part of your family, then you are on track to making an excellent decision.  In fact, you should end up with a true friend and companion!
